KATIKIES HOTEL, OIA

Artfully spilling down the steep volcanic cliffs towards the azure sea, Katikies is perfectly located at the beginning of Oia's cobbled caldera road. On arrival, the white-washed Aegean architecture of this iconic Oia landmark is instantly captivating, the rustic Greek church at the entrance adding to the charm. As you descend the dreamlike maze of stairways into the luxurious hotel, you are greeted with heart-stopping views, vibrant bougainvillaea draped verandas, a warm and enthusiastic welcome and an ice cold glass of refreshing homemade lemonade — you’ve arrived in what can only be described as utopia.

The rooms feature cave like traditional white-washed walls, each its own residence with a private terrace and an unforgettable viewpoint — perfect for escaping the bustle of the streets above. The interiors are minimalist and modest, the heavenly beds draped in crisp white linens and cushions to match.

A modernist take on a traditional cave dwelling, the hotel’s three tranquil infinity pools are the perfect place to unwind in the glorious Greek sunshine, with uninterrupted views of the volcano and sea beyond. They perfectly compliment the monumental setting, a combination of boutique luxury comforts and traditional charm. By night, hundreds of twinkling lights turn the pool into a magical starry sky, the warm glow of candlelight creates an elegant spot for a romantic evening drinking cocktails under the stars.

KAPARI NATURAL RESORT

Our second stop, was Kapari Natural Resort. A beautiful sanctuary in the picturesque village of Imerovigli, one of the most scenic towns in all of Santorini. We were originally booked to stay at the Grace Hotel, but due to renovation delays, we were moved to Kapari — it didn’t disappoint.

Designed 40 years ago by Rena and Takis Adamidis, the eco-boutique hotel combines traditional Cycladic architecture with contemporary minimalism and luxury details. The hotel’s 14 rooms and suites welcome guests with a serene atmosphere, relaxing mood lighting, tasteful furnishings, state-of-the-art comforts and spectacular views across the famous caldera.

We felt on top of the world in the Up & High Suite, the beautiful private terrace featured a relaxing giant infinity jacuzzi with endless awe-inspiring views of the ocean and surrounding towns. The rustic neutral tones create a tranquil space, from the fine organic linens to the dreamlike Duxiana beds. We had to ask the management where we could find our own — it was heavenly! Kapari has true heart and soul, from the staff’s heartwarming care and attention, to the delicious food lovingly cooked in the restaurant and the rare natural beauty of the surrounding landscapes. It is romantic, mysterious, luxurious, comfortable and elegant.

Kapari truly is a testament to the timeless culture of the Cyclades and we can’t recommend it enough.
