THE CENOTES

Need a break from the beach? Swim or snorkel in one of Tulum's mystical Cenotes, hidden pools of crystal clear blue water scattered throughout the Yucatan Peninsula.

1. Cenote Dos Ojos

Just North of Tulum on Highway 307, Dos Ojos is made up of two sinkholes connected by a giant cavern. The crystal clear waters make it a scuba diver’s dream.

2. Gran Cenote

Our favourite! Gran Cenote is the closest to Tulum on Highway 109. Swim in the turquoise waters surrounded by baby turtles, fish and lilies and unwind on the rustic broadwalk — it truly is a magical experience.

3. Ik Kil

It feels like another world at Ik Kil, vines and tree roots hang down above the deep blue Mayan waters. On the highway between Chichen Itza and Valladolid, get there early to beat the crowds and swim in serenity.

4. Casa Cenote

Surrounded by mangroves on the edge of the ocean, Casa Cenote is located about 11km North of Tulum town. As the sun reflects on the water, enjoy a moment of calm surrounded by the Cenote’s spiritual energy.

THE MAYAN RUINS, TULUM

If like us, you find busy tourist sites a little daunting... start early to beat the buzz. Rent a bike and cycle North to Tulum's historical Mayan Ruins. A picturesque and otherworldly experience, the ancient wonders stand tall above the sparkling turquoise coastline.

THE GREAT PYRAMID, CHICHEN ITZA

One of the new seven wonders of the ancient world, The Great Pyramid at Chichen Itza is a must-see. The center of Mayan pilgrimage for over a thousand years, at the Vernal and Autumnal equinox the morning sun creates a magical shadow illusion of the Mayan Serpent God descending El Castillo’s staircase.

Once again, getting there early is crucial, as the midday heat and crowds can be overwhelming – jump on a bus from the main Tulum town station for a 40-minute journey in-land to Chichen Itza.
